CBT for Infertility

When two individuals decide to start a family, the thought of becoming parents can be exciting, terrifying, and somewhat surreal.  Once this decision has been made, the process of trying to conceive begins.  Many couples struggle with fertility issues for a variety of reasons, which can cause: feelings of anger, sadness, frustration, embarrassment, hopelessness, envy of those who have children, distance from your partner, being less of a man or woman, and disappointment.

Managing fertility issues can cause anxiety, depression, obsessional thoughts, isolation, and stress on your relationship.  I work with individuals and couples in the following ways:

  • Educate each partner on the different Assisted Reproductive Treatments (ART) available.

  • Explore thoughts and feelings regarding different treatment options.

  • Create individualized plans for addressing the stress and feelings around your fertility issues.

  • Work with your Reproductive Endocrinologist, if possible, to come up with a holistic approach based on your individual needs.

  • Meet with both partners to address the effects on the relationship, as well as intimacy issues.

  • Determine which path to take if at a crossroad.

If you are experiencing any of these thoughts or feelings, let’s work together towards a solution, while having the support that is necessary to feel good.
